Born in 1990 in Santiago, Chile, Bruno Lloret had a wandering childhood; his mother’s job had their family moving up and down across the country. After spending a year in Israel, including a month and a half in a yeshiva, he came back to Santiago and enrolled at the University of Chile to study Literature; by then, he had acquired an enviable breadth of experience and insight. With his first novel, Nancy (2015, Editorial Cuneta), published when he was only 25 years old, Lloret eschews the current tendency towards autobiographic first works, exploring instead the eroded social landscape and intimacy of northern Chile through the eyes of a woman whose life is collapsing.
